Wells are unnecessary and over-rated though, when I first started playing I really wanted to set up a base by one, but they're in really awkward locations and don't really justify getting to them. Gas station is right next to it at the edge of town and there aren't that many zombies in the area. Has a parking lot with cars too, same with the gas station. Gas stations and corner stores are your best bet. Have a look around the project zomboid map to find some. Theyre all over. Grocery stores are worth checking too IIRC, I know I found 2-3 of them in the grocery store in Rosewood.
